Commonly known as pincushion flowers, scabiosa are members of the honeysuckle family and the beautiful lavender to blue flowers feature an outer ring of frilly petals surrounding a centre cushion of florets and stamens.

Portrayed here in stumpwork, hand dyed silk threads and ribbons perfectly capture the subtle colour changes in the petals while frosted glass beads depict the plump cushion at each open and spent flower centre.
