Description

Endemic to the Indian peninsular, this large black and white butterfly flies slowly with weak fluttery movements and lives in forest clearings and above the forest canopy.

Flower nectar, rotting fruit and decaying plant matter are common sources of food. It is often seen gliding, giving rise to its common name of paper-kite and is the state butterfly of Goa.
