More commonly known as the Chinese lantern plant, the red abutilon displays a flower with vibrant petals that hang beneath a bell-shaped calyx, almost concealing the cluster of stamens at its centre.
Clothed in a Christmas palette of red and green, its blooms have inspired this striking ornament, stitched with stranded cotton and embellished with the gleam of gold thread and tiny glass beads.
