What Are You Stitching?

‘I have been a stitcher for most of my 82 years. About 15 years ago I started quilting. When I saw the Stylish Succulents bag in issue #107 I knew it was a project that I would make for my daughter who recently turned 50.’

‘I have found that the arthritis in my hands made some of the stitches too difficult, so I just did what I could. After the bag was done I had just 52 inches of the yarn used to edge stitch it. Like most of the projects I’ve done from your magazine this gave me joy as I worked it.’

Sonja, we love that you enjoyed stitching this wonderful project and what a lovely idea to give it as a gift for your daughter’s 50th.  Your stitches and construction are perfect!

Robin Pool

‘I’m working on a repair project, using thrifted crochet thread to make small patches, which I will use to mend a hole in the bottom of an old embroidered wool purse I found in a throwaway pile. This is one of the ways I like to rescue old, embroidered projects and bring them back into use.’

‘I know that somebody years ago spent hours and hours to create this beautiful piece, and I hate to see all of that work go to waste.’

Well Robin it was certainly lucky that you were there to rescue this purse from the throwaway pile, well saved! We love that you have restored the bag back to its former glory by adding your own layer of care and creativity.

Abby Roane

‘I just finished the bag from Carolyn Pearce’s book The Embroidered Village Bag.’

‘It took me several months of work and I added in some of my own personal touches. We have cherry trees at our house from which I make the most delicious pies. I did one of the stitched trees in blossom and the other in full fruit, ripe for the picking. I couldn’t wait to show you.’

Wonderful photos Abby! We love that you made the project your own with the personal touches – the blossoms are just beautiful and go so well with your fabric choices. We’re sure you’ll get many years of stitching joy from your wonderful new bag.

Have you stitched a bag? Crocheted a patch to restore your purses? Or taken on the monumental Embroidered Village Bag by Carolyn Pearce?
