Opus Anglicanum, Latin for English work, developed during the late medieval period, 12th to mid-14th centuries, and is characterised by the use of two techniques, split stitch and underside couching, and its bold and expressive figures.
Heloise is worked primarily with these stitches using filament silk and gilt passing; her large eyes, bright colours and strong outlines are typical of this style.
Carefully carrying a bluebird on her fingers, she is patiently waiting for her partner, Abelard, to arrive.
