Description

Echoing the fresh, clear colours of spring, this delightful study of pink flowering dogwood uses a combination of surface embroidery and raised elements to great effect.

Often mistaken for petals, the large flower bracts are worked as detached elements in shades of rose and geranium, some softly shading into subtle greens and surrounding the true flowers at the beaded centre.

Pink-veined leaves and spheres of ripening fruit, studded with glistening beads, are clustered along the raised stems.

Nestled amongst the flowers and foliage of one stem, a fat caterpillar looks for its next meal and a colourful butterfly alights by a blush-tipped bud.

A green lacewing rests by the berries on the second stem, displaying its graceful, diaphanous wings and long, curved antennae.
