Pink Lily by Colleen Goy
13th September 2024
Just over a year ago we had the honour of publishing the work of a hugely popular industry veteran in Inspirations magazine for the first time. It was well and truly overdue and, thankfully for us, Colleen has now become a regular in our publications as today we celebrate another new Colleen Goy original.
Colleen is the talented designer behind Roseworks Embroidery Designs based in South Africa that publishes a huge range of stunning designs enjoyed by stitchers the world over.
Her previous projects Nature’s Delight from Inspirations magazine issue #119 and Changing Colour from issue #123, have certainly resonated with our readers as you would expect, Colleen’s work is beautiful.
Her latest offering is Pink Lily which appears in Handpicked Collection 3.
Stitched onto ivory silk dupion in stranded cotton, a glorious lily is worked in threadpainting with carefully blended shades bringing the fragile petals to life.
Colleen has chosen to use some wonderful pink hues from the DMC stranded cotton range including rose, medium rose, light rose, ultra-light rose, dusky rose, baby pink and very light salmon, just to name a few.
As for technique, you’ll find the usual list of stitches one would expect to see when creating a threadpainted piece, with perhaps one slight twist.
Colleen has been very efficient here as she has created this entire project using only 10 different stitches.
She did include one specialty stitch that you may not have heard of before, the Up and Down Blanket Stitch Loop. This variation to the blanket stitch loop creates a pretty, textured finish and prevents the loop from twisting.
We can all agree that this picture-perfect pink lily would look lovely stitched onto just about any creative application you can come up with.
We can also agree that Colleen’s choice to create a delicate sachet is a clever decision for this design.
Finished at the upper edge with a silk organza band, the sachet ties with a satin-edge ribbon, held in place with up and down blanket stitch loops.
A pretty, scented sachet makes an ideal gift, perfect for tucking amongst clothes in a drawer or in a suitcase while travelling to keep everything smelling sweet.
The finished sachet measures 25.5cm x 14cm wide (10″ x 5 ½”) and the Ready-to-Stitch kit includes everything you need to re-create this project exactly as it appears above.
Thank you, Colleen, for another beautiful project for us all to admire! Don’t forget to check out more of Colleen’s work on her website at Roseworks Embroidery Designs roseworks.co.za
