What Are You Stitching?

‘I just recently finished this snippet spool inspired by watching Jennifer Clouston videos, and her four books. The colors are chosen because the next project I will be working on will have these fabrics in it, and the words are chosen because my business is called SewCrazy For You!’

BJ, this is such a joyful and vibrant piece, and such a great way to use excess fabric. It’s clear how much fun you had creating this design, and adding your business name is a clever extra touch. Thank you for sharing this with us.

David Poyant

‘My name is David Poyant, age 70, and I began stitching about four years ago when I retired from retail. I was looking for something to keep my hands busy and I remembered my mother, who passed 40 years earlier, sitting in her chair, always stitching. So, I went out, bought some threads and needles and started stitching.’

‘Recently I was honoured to receive an award from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, International Prize for Artist on the Riviera, in recognition for my contribution to the arts, and my work has been on display at Gallery X and the New Bedford Art Museum.’

Welcome to the world of embroidery David and what a remarkable design you have created! It’s stunning. Your story is a wonderful testament to the fact that it’s never too late to start something new and congratulations on your very well-deserved award. Well done and keep up the terrific work.

Sam Dixon

‘I moved to France last year after 30 years in the UK (and the 26 before that in Australia) and was finally able to have a room dedicated to crafting. I started this piece many years ago as part of a City and Guilds course but I never managed to complete it.

It was inspired by a sculpture in the Smithsfield market that was close to where I used to work. I was finally able to complete it and hang it on my wall where hopefully it will inspire me to create many more things!’

A whole room just for your embroidery is very much a dream come true, Sam, and finally finishing a project that’s been in the works for a while is a fantastic achievement. Such a fun, unique and meaningful piece will no doubt encourage plenty more creative pursuits; thank you for sharing this with us.

Have you used excess fabric as the inspiration for a piece? Has your embroidery won an award or been on display? Or have you recently finished a project that’s been a long time in the works?
