What Are You Stitching?

26TH SEPTEMBER 2025 - ASU #495

Kate Anderson

‘I recently moved into an apartment and decided to affix small wall hangings on my apartment door. I hope to have a different one for each month. That meant that I had to get stitching. Attached are photos of three of my recent pieces. ‘Spring Is In The Air’ is a pattern by Bustle & Sew. I was pleased to find some green fabric in my stash for the border and I have hand quilted the piece. This will probably be hung in March or April, as I am in Canada.’

‘Have Yourself…’ is from the book ‘Christmas Patchwork Loves Embroidery’ by Gail Pan. It seems impossible to look at this piece and not start singing! This is for December.’

‘The ‘Blue Snowmen And Friends’ was a pattern from a Holiday Crafts 2010 magazine. It was designed by Bird Brain Designs. It was suggested that it be done in redwork but I thought the subject would be interesting done in blue. The month for this one will be January.’

‘I enjoy doing small pieces as they can be completed in a short period of time, giving me a sense of accomplishment.’

‘This is my Trish Burr’s Tufted Fly Catcher. I loved stitching birds and look forward to many more happy hours working these pieces. My next project is a Boobook owl who has settled very happily in a small tree in our retirement community.’

What a gorgeous project, Janet. Your recreation of Trish Burr’s design is masterful, and the joy you find in the hours you dedicate to your work is evident in your stitching. We wish you luck with your Boobook owl.

Lou

‘My current stitching project is a cross stitch that I adopted at a local charity sale. I have no idea who started this piece, or why it ended up at the sale, but I fell in love and couldn't leave it there.’

‘I pulled out the grid lines and started to add my own stitches the very day I bought it. I don't know what I will do with the completed piece, but I'm sure something will come to mind. The Bumblebee was originally designed by Crystalfeatherscrafts on Etsy. It's nice sometimes to pull out the aida and work on something simple.’

Lou, what a fun new twist on a collaborative project. We love that you were able to find inspiration from someone else’s work in progress and are sure the original owner would be thrilled to know this gorgeous design is well on its way to being completed. Keep up the great work.
