What Are You Stitching?

4TH JULY 2025 - ASU #483

Angela Anderson

‘I have been stitching a beaded bag from Margaret Lee. It is the White Iris, just like the Purple Iris in her first Japanese Beading Book, but in white!’

‘Margaret sourced the beads for me and the silver clasp too! I had the pleasure of taking quite a few fantastic classes from Margaret a few years ago, started this project after completing a few of her beaded creations and picked it up again so my embroidery friend could have it on her wedding day.’

‘I loved stitching this bag and my embroidery friend loved it as it went perfectly with her dress.’

Angela, thank you so much for sending us this beautiful project! We love seeing our community use their incredible talents to give the gift of needlework, and what an important milestone to have such a precious gift for. We have no doubt that Margaret will be equally as impressed with your achievements as we are. Well done.

Desiree Coetzee

‘Good day from our beautiful South Africa. I am super, super excited to share my progress on my latest work with you.’

‘It is a beautiful image I found on Pinterest. Unfortunately, I don't know who the artist is, but full credit goes to whoever created the artwork, the printed image of which serves as a pattern for my needle painting with embroidery thread.’

28.jpg

‘At this stage I am using only thread. Mostly 1 or 2 strands for very fine stitches. I am very excited with the result of the variegated thread I used for the big trees left and right side.’

‘I am looking forward to seeing the reaction and submissions from other embroiderers.’

Thank you for sending this in Desiree and hello back from Australia! Seeing something beautiful and embellishing it with a needle and thread is such a wonderful way to take inspiration from the art all around us. Your stitching is wonderful and complements the original image effortlessly. We know our community will love seeing your submission as well.

Kay Ackerman

‘I can access your publication through my library and it has brought me so much beauty and excitement when looking at (devouring) the amazing needlework. I also subscribe to your newsletter and saw your call for photos of our projects, so I’m taking a chance and sending you some.

I began designing my own needlework a few years ago when I was working my way through Jean Hilton’s Stimulating Stitches. I built a stitch library and began creating my own shapes.’

‘These types of stitches lend themselves to lacy effects and I designed a wrought-iron gate using them. But I needed something to frame it so I added some topiaries.’

31.jpg

‘When I posted this on one of my Facebook stitching groups, they LOVED the topiaries, which inspired me to create an all-topiary design. Here are my images of the Wrought-Iron Gate and the Topiaries. Thank you for creating such an enthralling publication’
