This week it is our privilege to bring you the latest addition to the Tania Cohen Hall of Fame - Spring Knot Garden from The Handpicked Collection 6.

If you cast your eye back over Tania's portfolio, you'll notice something interesting. ‘The Gardening With’ trilogy - Gold, Silver and Copper across Inspirations issues 127, 128 and 129 - gave each design its own canvas, its own mood, its own metal. Three separate gardens, each one a world unto itself.

Spring Knot Garden feels like the natural evolution of that idea. Rather than spreading the garden across multiple panels, Tania has gathered it all into one - four distinct flower beds, each celebrating a different spring bloom, contained within a single, exquisite, square composition.

Tulips, daffodils, bluebells and daisies, each in their own quartered bed, all surrounding a magnificent central rose.

Same sensibility, same precision, same signature goldwork framework - but this time, the whole garden in one glorious frame.

The central rose is the showstopper - raised gold kid leather petals with a chipped goldwork centre that catches the light differently at every angle.

The garden beds are framed with pearl purl and passing thread borders that give the piece its characteristic architectural discipline, while the flowers themselves are worked in lustrous Au Ver a Soie, Soie d'Alger silks - soft irises for the bluebells, warm golds for the daffodils, delicate China rose for the daisies - each one painterly and precise in equal measure.

Scattered throughout, gold beads and paillettes add that unmistakable Tania Cohen shimmer.

Worked on oyster smooth silk dupion, the finished design measures just 10cm or 4 inches square. Small enough to hold in your hands. Impossible to stop looking at.
