Great Escape by Jenny McWhinney

It’s often said that every piece of embroidery has a story to tell and when it comes to using needle and thread to literally tell a story, Jenny McWhinney is one of the best in the business.

Jenny is renowned the world over for bringing the adventures of her adorable characters to life like none other, in fact they are so good her projects remind us of a cartoon cell from an animated Disney movie

Today we’re adding yet another chapter to Jenny’s prolific catalogue of fabulous adventures with the project Great Escape from The Handpicked Collection 4.

Let’s set the scene…

Our central character is a cheeky, lovable, fluffy bunny rabbit merrily hopping through a grassy meadow on a mission.

With net in hand, he’s managed to keep pace with a kaleidoscope of inquisitive butterflies that have been fluttering about enjoying the spring blossoms.

The butterflies, blissfully unaware of the rabbit’s intentions, are caught by surprise as he makes a successful and somewhat magnificent last-minute lunge forward and snags them in his net.

Chuffed at his newly discovered butterfly catching abilities, our rabbit is just about to lean in to take a closer look at his catch when suddenly he is distracted by the sound of something scurrying around behind him.

Chirp-chirp! Chirp-chirp! A cricket hurriedly approaches, leaping onto a nearby toadstool to gain some height. Almost out of breath, he appears eager to deliver an important message to our rabbit friend.

All the while, the three captives take advantage of the timely distraction and make their escape post-haste.

It’s at this very moment that Jenny invites us into the story and perfectly depicts every detail in a moment frozen in time for us all to enjoy, aptly named Great Escape.

Stitched onto wool and cashmere velour with crewel wools and stranded cotton, this fabulous and fun design is perfect for any little person in your life.
