Hey <<First Name>>,

Welcome to the Embroidery News.  One of the great joys of publishing the World's Most Beautiful Needlework Books and Magazines is having the privilege of reviewing needlework from across the globe ranging from novice stitchers to seasoned artisans.

One of the constants we see in everything that comes our way is the incredible attention to detail and exceptionally high quality of finish achieved right across the Inspirations community.

It’s a credit to everyone who calls this craft their own, and you should all be proud of the high standards that are achieved.

Thank you for sharing your passion with us and for those of you yet to send something in – what are you waiting for?  Everyone is eager to see what you’re stitching so send it in! Email us at embroiderynews@inspirationsmagazine.com.au

WHAT ARE YOU STITCHING?

To get things started with ‘What Are You Stitching?’ this week, we have some award winning Hardanger to show you.  Margaret Attrill from Queensland in Australia fills us in on the details:

"Last weekend was the Lower Clarence Arts and Craft Exhibition where the Surface Embroidery on display was really something to see. I entered three pieces of Hardanger and managed to get two prizes - a second and a third so I was thrilled! Attached are the pieces of mine that received prizes. Happy stitching everyone,"
- Margaret

While the temperatures in Australia have been quite chilly across most the capital cities this past week, France has been enduring hot summer days.

Françoise Koenig sends us a weather report and shares a project she’s been doing to help keep her mind off the heat!

"Dear Inspiration, I thought that you might be interested in seeing two of my recent projects - a large biscornu and a sleeve for my e-reader. And you'll recognize the inspiration for the sleeve!

Have a nice cool day! The weather forecast for us - in Southern France, near Grenoble - today is 38°C (100° F). " - Françoise Koenig

Thank you Françoise, and yes we did recognize the inspiration for your sleeve… it’s a very innovative adaptation of the Memory Lane sampler bag by Jessica Wooderson as featured in Inspirations Issue 13. Very nice indeed!

And now for some special occasion pieces… A handbag for the bride by Sherri Smith from Dallas Texas USA, and a gem stone bracelet from Cathy Pratt in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA.

“This is the handbag I made for my daughter for her wedding day. The design is Vintage Rose from Irresistible Embroidered Bags. Just a change of color was all I needed to make it perfect. The pink and green were taken from her chosen color palette.”

I just recently finished up a project from Issue 85.  The instant I saw the pictures of the gorgeous beaded cuff 'Precious' I knew I had to make one.  I'd never done much embroidery with beads before, but I knew I REALLY wanted to make such a beautiful piece of jewelry.  I decided to go for more of a green and grey color scheme compared to the original and as I'm a geologist for my day job, it was great fun combining my love of stones with embroidery!

The instructions in the magazine were very easy to follow, even for a first time bead embroiderer like me, and my bracelet turned out wonderfully.  Thank you so much for making such an amazing magazine, and for always inspiring a new project for me to dive into with every issue."  - Cathy

Our final project for this week comes from Laura Harden in Tualatin, Oregon USA

'Hi, I'm Laura. I have been embroidering for about a year and a half now, so I'm still a beginner but I absolutely love embroidery. It's my favorite activity!

This is a project that I am just finishing up, I started it quite a while ago. It was inspired by an illustration of an ancient piece of art (on a vase) from Greece. It's called "the 9 muses". Best, Laura

Thanks Laura – it’s great to see such a diverse range of inspirations and influences coming across in everyone’s work.

Please keep sending in your photos – the feedback from our Embroidery News readers is that they eagerly wait each week to see what people are stitching.

What are you stitching?

Send us your photos, details about your project, where you live and a little about yourself to: embroiderynews@inspirationsmagazine.com.au

OFFICE UPDATE

It is said that as a general rule, if you are good at stitching you are likely to be talented in other artistic related areas as well.

Ellaine certainly proved that point this week as she shares with us how should brought her daughter’s birthday cake to life:

During last week, when I was stitching for Inspirations #88 at home, I was also preparing decorations for my eldest daughter's 10th birthday. Abbie had chosen a theme of Beanie Boos, which is a range of plush toys. She carefully chose her favourite Beanie Boos that were to be included on the cake and gave them to me so I could re-create them in edible form.

The birthday girl and her sister were well pleased with the result even the Beanie Boos seemed impressed with their likeness!

Thanks Ellaine, the cake looks brilliant… only you forgot to bring the cake into the office for all of us to taste test!?

In other office news, this week we are preparing to exhibit at a local stitching and craft fair, and part of our line-up will be to feature projects from our new magazine ‘Stitch Craft Create AU/NZ’.

With everyone in the office flat out working on the next issues of our magazines, we had to call in some help to create projects to use on our stand.

Enter Auntie Sharon! Kristian’s Auntie has been an avid sewing, quilter, crafter for as long as he can remember so she was the perfect candidate to help us in our time of need.

As quick as a flash she had recreated a cushion from issue 02, a reindeer from issue 01 and stitched together a flock of cute robins also from issue 01.

For more information about the magazine ‘Stitch Craft Create AU/NZ' check out our website here.

Thank you Auntie Sharon for rescuing us and for those of you in Adelaide if you want to come and check out these projects as well as see some Inspirations projects from Issue #86 up close and personal, we’ll be at the Wayville showground this Sat & Sun.
