INSPIRATIONS. ALL Stitched Up!
Click to enable images
Hi There,
Since the beginning of time, we’ve searched to be part of community, to find a link that unites us with like-minded individuals. We long to be surrounded by people who accept and value us for who we are and for what’s important to us. We call these people our tribe and when we find our tribe, we know it.
A tribe is welcoming and inclusive and ushers us into a place that somehow feels like home.
The digital age has made it easier than ever before to find our tribe. Whilst technology facilitates people far and wide coming together united by a common cause, sometimes the connections we make online aren’t quite the same as those we make in person.

Currently the team at Inspirations is hosting the 10th Beating Around the Bush Needlework Convention in Adelaide, Australia. We’re hanging out with our tribe in person! So, we hope you’ll excuse us over the next couple of weeks as All Stitched Up! takes on a slightly different format to allow us the privilege to reconnect with old friends and make new ones across the eight days the convention runs.

Needlework News
Sorry ~ Gone Stitching
While the Inspirations team is away at Beating Around the Bush, our office will be operating on a skeleton staff. During this time, orders placed on our website between 28th September and 12th October will ship on Tuesday 16th October. We appreciate your patience and look forward to being back with you soon.
Pop-Up Shop Open Tomorrow
Come and visit the Inspirations Pop-Up Shop tomorrow, Saturday 6th at Immanuel College 32 Morphett Rd, Novar Gardens South Australia. It’s a great opportunity to see all our brand-new publications, check out the Beating Around the Bush merchandise and enjoy the world’s most beautiful needlework in our stitching exhibition. We’ll be there from 10am to 2pm, so hope to see you there!

Have Your Say
As the Inspirations team are busy conversing with the attendees at Beating Around the Bush, we thought we’d share some of the many conversations that the All Stitched Up! Community have started or continued recently…
Anne Clohessy
‘I will be holidaying in Cape Town next year and would very much like a list of embroidery and/or fabric shops in the vicinity. I’ve not been very lucky in finding anything online and hope someone can point me in the right direction.’
If you’re able to point Anne in the direction of a needlework shop or two for her upcoming trip to Cape Town, we know she’d love to hear from you! Email news@inspirationsstudios.com and we’ll make sure we pass the information onto her.
Margo Steley | Australia
‘I am sending these photographs of the work of an unknown artist because the work is just so beautiful. I purchased this piece at an antique market.’
‘It was a little soiled and very inexpensive. I believe it may have been made by an elderly lady who no longer embroiders, but it saddens me to not know the maker.’
‘The work was a little dusty and stained, but I have had the piece dry cleaned by a thoughtful and friendly dry cleaner and framed by a professional framing service. There is detail on the rear of the piece which I asked the framer to ensure could still be seen (image below right) and I am very happy with the result.’
‘I suppose it may be a little strange to be sending someone else’s work, but the quality of the piece is so fine that I thought it would be of interest. The finished size is approximately 33cm x 23cm (13” x 9”). It would be wonderful if someone recognised the work and could tell me the name of the embroiderer so that she would know that it has found a good and appreciative home. I can only aspire to such exquisite embroidery!’

Margo, this piece of stitching has absolutely found a most appreciative home! Whoever poured their time and talent into it couldn’t have asked for more. We appreciate you taking the time to conserve and display a piece of needlework history and for sharing it with us.
Ingeborg van Oorschot | Netherlands
‘I was browsing through your newsletter and your story about needlework podcasts in issue #153 (HERE) got me thinking - does the Inspirations Community know about the Flosstube Community?!’
‘It’s a little corner of YouTube where needle workers post videos about stitching. Most people post videos with the word 'Flosstube' in the title and share projects they are working on, new found designers, tips on where to find supplies and reports of visits to needlework stores.

It has been going on for quite some years and the community had been gaining momentum in the last year or two. I know several 'flosstubers' from Australia and New Zealand and I'm sure you'll find the bigger channels if you search for 'flosstube' within YouTube.’
Also, besides the podcast mentioned in your newsletter, there is 'Fibertalk', a twice weekly podcast by Gary and Christine. You can find them at www.wetalkfiber.com.
Needlework is so often considered a solitary hobby, but magazines and newsletters like yours are making it possible for stitchers to connect with other stitchers all over the world and find their tribe.’
Ingeborg, we thank you for continuing the conversation we started and for sharing what you know with the Inspirations Community. Our readers truly are a wealth of knowledge!

What Are You Stitching?
For those of you who are long time readers of All Stitched Up!, you may have noticed that we’ll often try and link together individual segments within the newsletter with a common theme. This week’s theme is Beating Around the Bush, so we’re sharing some stitching that has a direct link to BATB.
Beth Ellicott | USA
‘My local guild, the Mississippi River Valley Chapter of EGA is stitching Betsy Morgan's Tall Year Square from Inspirations #93. I have finished my panels and am waiting for the rest of the group to catch up, so we can put it together!’
Beth, Betsy taught this project at Beating Around the Bush in 2016 and you’ve done her design justice with your precise stitching and attention to detail. We hope everyone from the Mississippi River Valley Chapter of EGA catches up soon as we can’t wait to see the finished result!
Elina Brown
‘I just finished stitching this beauty from Hazel Blomkamp in Inspirations Magazine #93. This is by far the most challenging piece I’ve ever tried, but it’s finally complete and I think it looks pretty good. Thank you for inspiring me to stretch my abilities and try something new!’
Elina, the project ‘Mandala Musing’ was another piece taught at Beating Around the Bush in 2016 and its technical stitches combined with its detailed design make it a labour of love! You’ve done well to not only complete such a piece, but to do it so beautifully. Hazel would be most proud of your efforts!

Inspirations #93 was our tribute to Beating Around the Bush 2016 as it highlighted some of the projects that were taught at the convention. As has now become the tradition to share some of what is created with needle and thread across the time the convention is held, make sure you look out for Inspirations #101 due to be released in February 2019, as it will showcase eight gorgeous projects currently being taught at this year’s Beating Around the Bush.
